THE TALLAHASSEE ASSOCIATION FOR MARRIAGE AND FAMIL

INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS™: AN INTRODUC

Presented by NANCY M. WONDER, Ph.D

Licensed Psychologis

SEPTEMBER 19, 2008

This four-hour workshop will introduce participants to the Internal Family Systems ™ model developed by Richard Schwartz, Ph.D.  The IFS approach is a non-pathologizing model of therapy that integrates the intrapsychic process with family therapy, psychology, and spirituality.  It offers a powerful way for the therapist to build a collaborative relationship with the client, while safely healing severe trauma.  Nancy Wonder, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist in private practice since 2000.  She has been working in the Internal Family Systems Model since 2003.  Dr. Wonder completed the Level 1 Basic Training and the Level 2 Advanced Training.  In addition, she has served as a Program Assistant in two Basic Trainings where she facilitated practice groups and home groups of therapists in training.

Program Objectives:

Participants in this workshop will be able to:

1. Explore and discuss the basic tenets of IFS in regard to the non-pathological multiplicity of mind and the concept of Self.

2. Understand the concept of releasing uncomfortable feelings and beliefs which  allows for harmony and balance in the internal systems.

3. Review and have a general knowledge of the three subpersonalities that most often present in therapy: managers, firefighters, and exiles.

4. Describe the dynamics of this three-group system.

5. Review the IFS concept of Self and its role and effectiveness as the leader of the system.

6. Discuss and identify the qualities of the Self: curiosity, compassion, confidence, clarity, creativity, connectedness, and calmness.

7. Review the power of working with the client’s Self in therapy.

8  Discuss the benefits of IFS therapy.

9. Explore and discuss the therapeutic relationship as it applies to the IFS therapist.

Location: Health South Rehabilitation Hospital, 1675 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, FL.

Schedule: Friday, September 19, 8:30 Registration; Workshop 9 AM to 1 PM.
